How to Do Reverse
Lookup Phone Numbers
Looking up a phone number is
not as sneaky as it sounds-people use this service every day.
Below are some tips or suggestions you may find useful when you
have to do a reverse lookup of phone numbers for landlines and
cell phones.
Use an Internet search engine to complete
your reverse phone number lookup. Google Phonebook has this
feature available to use at no cost. It will provide name,
address, and phone number for you to use. You will find that
they also will give you a map to the address they have found.
It is important to note, however, that not all search engines
will provide you with information for numbers that are
unlisted.
Below the initial match results they give you, you will find
that there are additional searches found that have the number
you're looking for included. You may find this useful if you
want further information of the person or business that the
number is linked to.
When completing a reverse
phone number lookup for a cell number, you may run into some
difficulty. The reason is that landline numbers are issued by
interlocking systems of regional phone companies, and cell
numbers are distributed through individual mobile
companies.
It can still be done, but usually with a fee. You can find many
sites that offer reverse number lookups for cell phones on any
search engine with instructions similar to free reverse number
lookups. Some may charge a one-time fee of about $15, and may
also offer a yearly fee of $40 or so.
Cell users often wish to keep their information private, and
due to lawsuits against companies trying to form a directory of
numbers and information, this process has been stopped. Making
it all the more difficult to track down reverse
information.
Sometimes when looking to do a
reverse lookup of phone numbers, it's as easy as just typing
the number into any search bar, especially if it is a landline
number. If you place quotation marks around the number in the
search bar, it knows you're looking for an exact match.
Again, unlisted and cell phone number reverse lookups aren't as
easy to retrieve and usually there is a fee behind the reverse
search service. You may be paying for nothing, since it is next
to impossible to find numbers with unlisted or cell identities.
But don't get discouraged. If finding that number is of the
utmost importance, you can always hire a private detective to
cut through all the red tape and do the snooping for you.
It may cost you more than you wanted, but private investigators
have access to programs/software they may get them further than
you will.
